Network Solutions Now Gives Its Customers The Option Of Being Victimized
A little while back, I wrote a little about how Network Solutions extorts people for domain names, via the despised practice of front running. Now with Network Solutions being sued over their antics, they have changed their procedures a bit.
Now when you go to Network Solutions and run a search for an available domain name, if you don't immediately decide to register it with them a pop up box is displayed where you can optionally let Network Solutions temporarily hold on to the searched domain name. If you click on "OK", then for the next four days you will only be able to buy that domain from Network Solutions for their overly inflated price. If you click on "Cancel", then Network Solutions will not grab hold of your desired domain name. I have personally tested out their new setup and have found it to do exactly what I just described.
As much as I despise what Network Solutions has been doing, it is nice to see that a friendly little lawsuit is getting them to clean up their act. They are taking steps to legitimize their business, and with them now offering opt-in front running things can only get better.
